Lee Chang's 400+HP Super 99 'Carnage'
Posted by Humble Performance on 5th Dec 2018
We all buy cars with lofty goals and aspirations, and the Humble Performance/Street Certified 4Piston Super 99 Powered 'Carnage' is no exception.

Purchased originally as a simple K swapped EG Hatch, the car started as a simple project meant to compete in the local import events in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

We got the call in 2013 to go to Minnesota to help the Chang brothers out with their EG hatch to get it ready for Proving grounds in Minnesota.

ee's car ended up running a 10.3 @ 130MPH, setting the All Motor record in Minnesota that wouldn't be broken until 2018.

The Chang family has always welcomed us with open arms even back in 2013.

Years later in 2017, the Chang brothers enlisted our help to make their car a competitive AMP monster. Dubiously asking us to remake La Lenta 1 for 1, and thus the clone was born.

If you talk to Alex, he'll tell you we built the 'Clone Car' the way he wish he would have built La Lenta. The car features many high end parts that Alex's car at the time didn't have. Including a SpeedFactory Carbon Fiber roof, Seibon Carbon fiber hood, and a Frank's Fiberglass V2 Front End. The project took roughly 1.5 years to complete start to finish.

We took extra care and steps to ensure that this build was built as if it was MORE than just one of our own cars. Lee's car utilizes some of the highest end parts you'll find on any Honda build of this caliber. Manuel took his time ensuring all the fab and body work was absolute top notch in form and fitment.

The car was torn down to the bare shell, and rebuilt from the bottom up. Including a completely resprayed interior with factory color matching paint, our custom 10pt 8.50 cert roll cage painted with an eye popping gloss black to really set off the interior with some contrast.

Of course we fitted the car with a 4Piston Super 99 Powerplant. The high revving monster fitted with custom spec Kinsler ITBs and a Myers Competition Header is all a part of our winning All Motor Pro package. We also took the time to build a wireframe front to reduce weight and ease release of the bumper for transport and service. The wire supports are fitted with Quik Latch connectors allowing us to remove the bumper in a matter of seconds, coupled with the K-Tuned Quick Hood Latches, we can have the engine and transmission fully accessible for service within seconds for races where maintenance and inspection between rounds really counts.

The entire chassis was rewired from the ground up. Utilizing a custom made WireWorx harness and custom interior wiring by Falo using an ARC-8000 switch panel, all the cars functions were put on a switch from lights to the water pump to the RacePak IQ3 Dash.

As with any Humble Performance All Motor build, the car is powered by the infamous Hondata K-Pro Version 4. Yes, Hondata can still run 9s All Motor with some wizardry.

For induction, the car utilizes a Myer's Competition Carbon Fiber Air Scoop. Fueling is supplied by a set of Deatschwerks DW1500 Injectors and a Weldon 2015. For weight savings, the car also features Optic Armor windows allowing us to not worry about scratching the lexan as well as look good doing it.

On the rollers, the car performed well. Making 400HP on M1 without breaking a sweat, this car is 9 second ready.

We installed the Myers scoop on the inside of the bumper rather than the outside, allowing a unique flush look not seen on another car in competition. We set out to make this car a showstopper.
So, given the history of the car, obviously it's first debut had to be at the event it set the record at back in 2013...

We took the car back out to Proving Grounds once again to debut the new setup. The Chang brothers, who had been pretty absent from the scene, had reappeared with an entirely different beast thant he state of Minnesota had ever seen. On the very first pass off the trailer fresh from a delivery trip from Tulsa, OK, the car laid down an impressive 10.3 @ 133MPH bogging hard off the line breaking the Proving Grounds Record on it's FIRST pass on the new build.

Alex would go on to drive the car for eliminations and lay down a new PB for the car running a 10.14 @ 134.
'During eliminations, Alex made the comment that the car was setup and aligned so straight he could cruise without his hands on the wheel past the traps, so he did.

After hundreds of hours and a year of stress, finally seeing the car go down the track made it all worth it. This build has ultimately turned into the beginning of something new for Humble Performance and we're excited to share more as time progresses. We want to thank everyone who has helped us help the Chang brothers' dream become a reality, and ultimately, David and Lee for placing so much trust in us to build their dream. Since Proving Grounds, we raced at World Cup Finals, and have plans to continue to race in the 2019 season. This car has extreme potential, and we're excited to unlock it in the coming years.

Welcome to the team. Welcome to the Family.
